    I think the second is a 1955 "poor man's" dd

    Thanks for the heads up - that's a nice site. On the second I think I have answered my own question. It appears to be a 1955 poor mans dd with basically only the last 5 smearing a bit and not doubling all over. See below.

    That might be an lamination error rather than Machine Doubling...I hope someoen with more experience than I will chime in,.
