I think I may have found my first error nickel in circulation. I need to take a better photo at home to be able to look a little closer at the mint mark.

    Regards

This is the best picture I can find of one. Really tough to tell in your picture, but thought maybe this one would help you when you get home. Good Luck!

Well there is only one known S/D but there are also some S/S.
I can't tell from your photo if it is one or not---but will wait for you to post more photos ;)

Here are some attempts at better shots.

Something is going on under the bottom side of the loop (nine o'clock)in the S. The shape of the tail and inside loop of the S is also odd. I think it's an overdate???

    Thanks

I still can't tell----but I'll tell you what I'll do. I have a really nice one here that is graded MS63, I'll take some photos and since you have the coin in hand then maybe you will be able to tell for sure. I would say that there is a chance that it might be an S/S.
And BTW--it wouldn't be an over date...but an OMM! (Over-MintMark)

From the pictures it is to hard for me to tell, if you have the cherrypickers guide you will see on page #315 and #316 that your coin does not look like to me to be a over mintmark or a RPM but I am only going by the pictures you have.

    Speedy,

I think you are right, it looks more like an S over S when I look at it with a better graphics app I have here at work.

    Thanks

Sorry but it looks like it is NOT the S/D.
    Perhaps an RPM, but?

Well I have viewed the coin----since it is a circulated grade coin I'm having alittle bit of a problem making sure what it is....but I think it is an S/S. I'm finding a listing in the CONECA files that comes pretty close to what I'm seeing. I'm hoping to get some photos up so ya'll can see it...but my camera is on the blink.

Speedy - Thanks a ton for taking a look at it. The condition makes it a little rough to tell - believe me I understand... I will look forward to pictures (when camera is up and running - no hurry) and any info from the CONECA files.

    Best Regards,

    Darryl

Here is a photo I got---this is one of a few that I think came out pretty nice for the first try on this coin.
Marked in RED is what I think is an underlying S....what are ya'lls thoughts?

A minor RPM. Agreed: not the over mint mark.

I think it is RPM-004 S/S-NW. When Wiles printed his book there were few known of this variety and it was listed with a high number on the rarity scale....but the sad part is that value is still so small.

Darryl! Good find and thanks for letting me see it! I'll be sending it back to you soon.

    Speedy,

Very happy to have you look at it... The pictures are great - all I can say is wow - those are clear pictures. That S looked funny even w/o magnification. Thank you again for the attribution!

    Best Regards,

    Darryl

Ok Speedy those are some mighty fine photos! What type epuipment are you using? I am going to invest in some decent equipment one of these days and that is the type end product I'm looking for.
There is only one s/d OMM variety listed for this date but I in fact do have another but just can not get a decent picture though I've tried on many occasions.

Well my set up is cheap---and isn't the best when you really get down to it.
A few years ago I got a printer for my computer and with the printer I got a cheap camera...this is the only camera that I have that will take such photos, and it isn't even that good of one. My sister takes photos for weddings and such and her camera is much better and it just won't do this type of job.
I have an old, cheap, microscope <sp?> that I use.....I put the coin in the microscope and shoot it with light and take the photos. I normaly take a lot of photos and only use a few of those...
Here is another photo that I took of Darrly's coin--I'll also show a few other photos that I have taken with this set up---what do you think they are?

Ok, I've finally got a decent pics of this what I believe is a 1954 S/D/horizontal D but the smallest I can get the files is 360Kbit! I've noticed others post links to there photos instead of attaching the photo to there post. Is this to get around the 100k limit and how would I do this?

There are a couple of ways - either post it in the Gallery which does accept larger file sizes or post it on a hosting site like Photobucket and then post the link here.
