I'm not good with close measurements so at first I thought it was the near leaf variety. Then as I looked again it does appear to be the far leaf. https://coinsandcanada.com/coins-prices.php?coin=5-cents-1953&years=5-cents-1953-1964
Looks like a strap to me and a near leaf (2nd die). I would have to look at my own specimen to be sure though.
That's what I thought at first, but the online example is basically nearly touching compared to mine which is twice the distance further zoomed in,still hard to tell though just my opinion.
Hi potty dollar - some quick pics. Looks like the shoulder strap could be the differentiator when unsure about the leaf position. Have a look - I hope it helps.
OK, had a look at Coins and Canada. I think you have the 1953 SF Near. There were 4 varieties for the date, not 2 as I thought. Apparently, the coin binder I have only has the 2 die types, not the 4 die configurations. Mine are the garden variety specimens. But now I know there is something to look for. The other 2 configurations are pretty valuable.
I'm going by my LCS next week to sell some more stuff so I'll have them look at it in person, yes they are.
