1953 S lincoln

    This may not be the correct forum but lets see. My question is when is the mint mark too close to the date? I know there is an allowance but where does it end? Attached is the 1 in question and 2 examples. I appreciate any help.

    It does look quite close...let alone it is touching the 5.

    It is very common, before the late 80's mint mark

    It is very common, before the late 80's mint mark placement can and does appear all over the area esp in the 1950's-D&S coins - ones I have seen very close or touching are 1953 S & D, 54 S & D, 55 S & D, 56-D 58-D - I even have some 1971 & 74-D almost touching the rim - all over the place as these were hand placed. It is a very hard job to do it in the first place.
