So I am very pleased to be a member of this board and thanks for looking at my post. Let me first start by saying I am an avid collector and have been for 40 yrs. I used to have the lunch lady cashier look thru the coins for me till she realized there was a profit and cut me off. I like key coins (U.S.) and errors. Now about 7 years ago I bought a clear tube of 1955 p UNC red. When they arrived they were 53's the seller offered to make it right but the 53's were worth a little more so I kept them. Over the last week I bought several loupes 10mm to 60mm and have been looking at some of my "box coins" you know the commons you throw in a box and dont worry about the "nicks" BUT not the 1953's they were safe inside their tube. Well I popped the tube last night and to my surprise I found DDO's MS and RED. Are these coins recognized? I found some advertised that look like what I found that are proofs, were the business strikes discovered to have this error? I find lots of RPM's that go for 100's but cant find any DDO for sale. I can find info that they exist and PCGS wrote an artical that said 1953 was becoming hot because of the varieties. Well that about sums up my findings so now I hope that you will give me your thoughts feelings, and dealings with this coin. THANKS AGAIN James
James, there are documented 1953DDO's. HERE is a start. You can also contact several people at Coneca that can confirm what you have. If you need help let me know.
WOW I was the population report, now demand is another story. But Im sure it is the real thing . But I do not want to get too excited b/c well I cant say just yet. THANKS
1953 DDO Lincoln This came from a roll of UNC 1953p . What die state is it? Any Info. Also has doubling in United States of America.:hail:
Die Wear I think you are right. And I realize it is not as dramatic as the '55DDO but is still displays awesome doubling and stunning prooflike surfaces. I have recieved a reply from another member that shows these coins are very rare and only 2 have been slabbed and they are MS64. I have listed it on Ebay and donated 25% to a very good cause for vets and there famialy's as I feel lucky to of found it in the roll I saved for over 5 years. I will even refund the buyers money if not satisfied. The coin is stunning and I have begun to wonder if the mint took the proof dies after they had served their purpose minting the proof coins and sent them over to the business strike part of the mint to continue stamping out coins. It would make (cents) HAHA to do this b/c the dies where still capable of making coins and would not alter the quality control measures, so why not? LOOK AT THAT LUSTER!!!!
It is the one that show the proof like luster there are 2 other that show the doubling. It is ebay listing number 300718489816. Please check it out and be honest with what I can do to improve the listing. TY for your comments
Thanks for the reply. I was shocked when I opened that tube to say the least. The other PICS of LIBERTY and 1953 are to show the doubling. There is even doubling in the United States of America too just no pics yet. BUT ITS THERE. I am wondering if the proof dies where maybe sent to the business section of the mint to continue life. I have heard that proof hubs only do like 1-5k and then are retired. So why not send them over to Business for longer life. The die would get less and less pretty with that kind of use and circulation would also chanbe the coins luster. Dont you think???
Sorry you feel that way I did not know I was doing something wrong. BUT those IMAGES were taken BY me and I took them with 3 different cameras. I am no expert on photography but those pics are of the coin. I bought a roll of 1955 in a clear tube and was sent a tube of 1953's the seller offered to make it right and send me the 55's I kept the 53's b/c 7 years ago they were worth more. I opened the tube 2 days ago b/c I had bought several good loupes and this it what I discovered. I was very excited because I have always dreamed of having something like this happen. There are more than 10 coins that would look like the pics I have posted. I showed them to a prominent shop In the city I live and he advised me how to proceed. The listing on ebay is also GIVING 25% per my request to A Veterans Charity, and since I am so pleased and no this is a once in a lifetime happening BOOKSB4COINS I would gladlly up that donation to 50% and I challenge you to match it OK. I am not spamming but if the administrators say I am then I will abide by their decisions. SO BOOKS do you wanna put your money where your mouth is?
It's possible. I've heard over and over of this practice being done, 1921 Peace dollars come to mind.
Today they are retired after 3 - 5K coins but back then they not only used them longer, but they would also repolish and continue using them. They might get 15 - 25K coins out of them. back in the 19th century they would sometimes use retired proof dies for business strike, and they do sometimes still use retired mint set dies for business strikes. As Badthad said, the doubling you have shown is die deterioration doubling not a DDO.
It is still an MS proof like double die with great features, and the only ones I have seen are brown and circulated and they wanted 70.00, You know 7 years ago I could of bought a 1936 d 3 1/2 leg Bison F15 for 350.00 I appreciate the input by all means. BUT show me another one like this, MS proof like double die.
You keep saying that but two very knowledgable people, Conder and Badthad, have told you that it isn't a doubled die. I agree with them also. I would take their advise and cancel the ebay listing untill you have the coin attributed.
So you are able to get clear close-ups but a photo of the whole coin is beyond your abilities? Even with your crappy images, do you really expect anyone to believe they are of the same coin? You're still dreaming. So who is this "prominent" dealer and exactly what did he say? Did he advise you to use photos of different coins in the ebay listing or was this classy touch all your own? Instead of repeatedly patting yourself on the back for a donation, why not spend a few minutes to prove that this coin really is what you believe it to be? In two separate, near identical threads you have yet to identify this supposed variety or back up any of your claims. Who is this mysterious all-knowing member whose reply to you "shows these coins are very rare"? Drop the smoke and mirrors. Well.. quite the big man, aren't we. I highly doubt the TAPS organization would be pleased to know that any donation came from a misrepresented and possibly fraudulent ebay listing. While your heart may be in the right place, a donation does not give you the right to deceive anyone, and this is exactly what you are doing. As for putting my money where my mouth is.. if you can prove the exact coin (or should I say coins) shown in the photo is a "rare" and valuable variety, Ill be happy to. Otherwise I have no choice but to believe you simply do not know what your talking about.
