Found this in my nickel roll today... i knew right away before i opened the roll that something was odd about this nickel just from the edge (see picture)... to spark my curiousity even further, the nickel is toned to some degree...

upon further investigation, there rough surfaces over some areas of the coin and very smooth areas over others...

So did i find a coin not even worth face value (unless i can further fake the system and pawn off a fake as a real nickel) or did i find somethine bizarre???

Kind of tuff trying to figure out the coin from the photos but appears to be a lamination problem. If so it is probably worth a few dollars. All error coins are worth something lately. There are a lot of error collectors out there nowadays. What gets me is at coin shows I see dealers even selling counterfeit coins, damaged coins, coins bent from a bullet, coins with holes drilled in them. It's becoming sort of like a joke to spend money and buy a coin that is useless and wothless.

Die deterioration (a.k.a. die wear). Just a late die state. It's only worth a nickel.
