Well I found this of interest as I have something of a collection and got this original letter of correspondence from the RM to a certain Robert. Perhaps readers would like a shot at interpretation: PS - I have the coin, or one of them and although nice is not cameo And the original envelope:
Cool, it looks as though the sender is including six coins but I'm curious why it is on official stationary? Any background info? Here is my interpretation of the letter, correct me if I'm wrong. My Dear Robert, Herewith six coronation crowns, all proofs + very rare. I'm just off for a fortnight's leave + will reply to your letter as soon as I return Yours ever, [Somebody]
Yes, that was my read as well. I guess I should stop being lazy and look up who the Deputy Mint Master (not listed as known on Wikipedia) was to see if it might have been he who signed off... This coin was labelled #1 by the seller although no others were offered at the time.
Yes, and the letter was sent along with the crown from seller from ??South Africa. It was interesting and so saved it. Don't know about the "very rare" bit as that would seem not to be true. Also the coin that came with it does not appear to be of putative VIP Record so that may be a bit of a stretch by the letter's author.
