1953 filled MM

if a MM after 1990 was filled would be the result of a die chip. so would that mean before 1990 the punch was defective

It's a chip, you're right. The little area just broke off.

 

is it considered an error or a variety and is it worth keeping

 

It’s flip worthy in my opinion. And for the cost of a cent, easy to do.

Yea, anybody can afford to not spend a penny forever. A nice $100 bill in pristine condition are nice to keep. But unless it really has a nice serial number, it would eventually need to be spent on Meow Mix.
