1953-D Red appearance. Any added value?

    Is this an error or toning or neither? The two photos showing the entirety of the coin make the "red" look less red than it appears in person. The close up shot is the true color.

    No just damage and circulation wear,that red stuff did not occur at the mint.I would say the wheatie itself is worth around a nickel just keep it.

    No, @Valar Morghulis, that doesn't add any extra value to it. I know that's hard to believe...

    It has a fair amount of corrosion, the green stuff, and some "red areas" from where the toning has been disturbed. It's really only worth a cent even those it's a wheat ears type.

    Looks like Cu2-O Copper(I)oxide or cuprous oxide
    and CuO Cupric Oxide.

    Most common cause would be sitting in a chlorinated fountain. And that is my guess, someones wish at a mall.
