Being an amateur about coins, I am having some problems in deciding what the grade/value of
this 1953 Canada half Dollar Large Date NSF coin should be. It looks uncirculated with it's mirror finish.
But I have doubts because above the word Canada are three maple leaves. The middle one and part of
the left one appear worn down from circulation. But the areas around these leaves don't appear to be worn down.
    Possibly a minting error?
So if you'd like to evaluate this coin for value and grade I would appreciate it greatly.

The elaborate details on the reverse of these coins do a number on the reverse dies, they just don't last that long and usually needs to be maintained more. From what I can see, the reverse looks to have been struck through some grease, or maybe a filled die. And I would peg the grade to be about a MS62-63. It's not quite specimen proof quality, it would have to be a 65+ to qualify for that designation.

The LD NSF 1953 half is scarce in Unc and this piece I agree looks MS62ish. No obvious contact, but ... I think it is just a weak strike on the maple leaves. The Haxby reference lists it (retail) at $180 in MS63 and the Canadian Trends value in MS63 is $150, so a realistic sale price would be around $100. It does look like a nice coin but I'm not sure about the obverse, perhaps it has been dipped? Looks a bit hazy. Good luck!

    Best Regards,

    George

Thanks both for your replies. I did a lot of looking around at other coins like this and with the Canadian guide coinsandcanada.com I thought it a 60 to 63.
The queens side is different then the dated side. As Kookoox10 said it looks like it was punched with grease or an oil.
There's a 1953 uncirculated dime NSF and it looks fine, no haze like on the queen. Made me wonder (as I didn't know)
if they came from a mint set? I don't believe the coin was dipped though I could be wrong. If it was dipped, I would think
the mirror side would look like the queen's side?
Any way thanks for your evaluations as it helps me set a price and possible grade :)

No trouble at all, keep in mind a Canadian buyer will jump all over that coin. It's a key variety in the series and a higher grade example.

Glad to help. Typo: I meant to say the Canadian Trends is $150 in MS62. It's $250 in MS63 so what kookoox10 says is absolutely correct. Good luck!
