Not fully re-punched but sure looks like the tool hit the die

Probably exactly what happened to the coin in the thread "1983 D cent MM" that got closed. As with the zincer it was just enough force when the guy dropped the tool whilst in the wrong position. Maybe didn't even hammer it.

 

I only see a normal date that had been smashed down some during years of use and abuse
