Try to find those more often!

Little silver surprises are nice to come upon...

I found a 1952 in my change once. Don't know mintages for quarters, but must have been a higher mintage year.

Wonder how this coin got through all the collectors hands with the introduction of the clad quarters starting 65' ? Could it even be used in a vending machine or a coin counter machine now a days seeing the difference in weight?

They are unlikely to work in most vending machines these days. I recall reading a post on here a while back wherein a collector noticed someone who frustratingly kept trying to put a quarter into a vending machine that it wouldn't accept. This person was happy to trade quarters with the collector and the collector was happy to add what turned out to be a silver quarter to their collection.

I do recall occasionally getting silver dimes as change from vending machines at school in the late 90's. I'm not sure if they were loaded in by the vendors or if they just cycled through from being used in the machines by faculty and my fellow peers, though. Collectors find silver coins in bags from counting machines fairly often so they do seem to make it into them without too much trouble but I'd imagine it depends on the machine and how it's calibrated.
