I found this 1951-d penny while working at a convience store. It is not copper colored. It seems to be more steel colored. it tried to use a magnet on it to see if it was steel and it didn't pick it up. help me identify this coin please. i have posted pictures.
    Thanks for any help.

Did you weigh it? Normal copper cents from that era are 3.11 grams.

It has copper color around the rim. It's just dirty. I find a lot of wheats out of BWR that look like yours.

Neither do mine. I can't really tell you why but perhaps someone way more knowledgeable than me can. But with that bit of copper color on the side of your coin I would bet dollars to donuts that it is dirty or some kind of PMD that caused it to turn that color.
Of course there is no way to tell 100% unless it's weighed.

If you took the coin to a jeweler or a college or university chemistry department, they could weigh it for you.

I would think plated IMO. Normal weight is 3.11 grams.

 1st Commandment of Numismatics: Thou shalt not clean thy coins!!! How about struck on foreign coin planchet? who's got that handy dandy chart??? 3.23g is well within mint tolerance levels.
