I am selling coins for a friend, and today he gave me some rolls of nickels from the mid-1950s. They have the date written on the outside, and if I open them to check and make sure they're all correct, I won't be able to get them back in the roll. I opened one and the nickels did all seem to fit the date but they were circulated. Is there any hope in selling them as rolls or should I just deposit them in the bank?

There is also a partial roll of bicentennial quarters and halves. They don't look quite uncirculated but they are in nice shape. Would anyone want these?

I'm guessing the answer is no to all of them, but I wanted to ask before I just deposit them.

    doug444 STAMPS and POSTCARDS too!

Unless you can sell them face-to-face (like CraigsList), the postage to ship them is going to far exceed their incremental numismatic value. You could screen them for the mintmark errors 1949D/S, 1954S/D, and 1955D/S. Just get some new wrappers to wrap them after examination.

Years for saving solid-date circulated rolls of 1950s Jefferson nickels are: 1950, 1950D, 1951S, 1955 and 1958. I would deposit any other years. I would also spot check every roll that you plan to deposit to make sure none of them are OBWs or otherwise in uncirculated condition.

I don't have any of the good years. I'll probably just open them up and see what's there and then put them with my other non-collectible change.

You may be the go between your friend and whomever buys these, but if it were me, I would open every roll and inspect every coin and make a fair assessment on condition so I would know how best to advertise them.

Since I would search each roll, I would advertise them as searched.
