    I'd say VF30 and about $10.

    It's a high end EF.
    They go for $10-$15.

    (Just my opinion)

    Jody, I'm surprised.

    EF40
obverse - Hair is lightly worn but shows nearly full details. Cheek line and
bottom of bust are worn but sharp.
reverse - Triangular roof and beam are worn but all details are visible.

    VF30
obverse - Hair is worn but but shows nearly full details. Cheek line and
bottom of bust are worn but sharp.
reverse - Triangular roof and beam are worn nearly flat. Most of the pillar
    lines show plainly.

    I would hope not.

That's one of the reasons I don't post here more.
Seems like every time I voice a personal opinion, it gets challenged.

Nobody said you were wrong, my friend.

Jody my friend, I thought you knew that my purpose is to educate, not to challenge. And that's why I posted what I did. The reason I was surprised is because you know nickels so well.

Yes, I know that grading is subjective and considered by most to be a matter of opinion. But for the most part that only applies to the MS grades. For circulated grades we have more cut and dried standards, like this one. And when we do, opinion is pretty much left out - it either meets the standard or it doesn't.

At the risk of being contentious, I'm not sure it isn't unc.

It's tough to tell from the picture but it looks like a subdued luster unc to me.

Grade doesn't matter much on this date anyway really since most are unc and there's very little price spread.

I agree quite a bit with this assessment. I see lots of mint lustre on this coin and wouldn't be surprised if it were even AU or beyond in person.

And that is the problem with scans, as opposed to photos.
A great deal of the detail that is needed to determine condition is lost.
Also, because of the quality, a good coin may look fake, etc.

VF-EF-AU.... This one falls in the middle. Whats the difference in price between the 3 grades? about a buck or two.

Still hard to tell by the pictures but it looks AU or BU to me!

Is it possible that this is just a semi weak strike and not wear? Hard to tell with a photo that small.

Looks to me like a typical Unc, and since almost all of them are uncs my bet is that this was a circ set that someone put together from pocket change and then finally bought an Unc to fill that last hole. Like 90%+ of all the circ sets I've seen.

You also know as well as I do that TPG's will grade a key date a point higher in some cases. That coin is very close to being a low end EF-40
