I do not. Where do you see the D ? If it is the vertical part between the serif of the S and the middle part, That is usually damage to the mm punch as it is a very narrow sliver of metal that often is broken through use and 'makes" a connection between the areas. The S and D mint mark was from the same font and size. Jim
It doesn't match the MM position of any that I looked at. It looks like it could possibly be doubled at the bottom but there is also some damage that I see. Hard to tell which is which. I say damage.
Inside the top curve of the S appears to have a sharp 90 degree turn as a D would have if it were facing South(very distinct)and the back of the D is covered by the top of the S. There are many similar to this on copper coins but no mention of a over mint mark.
I wish I had a way to Overlay this but the more I look at it it looks like the back of the D is facing south and the curve of the D North behind the top part of the S. If rotated would fit the font size perfectly. Well maybe not perfectly....
Like Jim said, those area shows many different die cracks, chips, etc. Look through the MM styles. You can see how prone this MM was to die chips. http://varietyvista.com/01a LC Doubled Dies Vol 1/San Francisco Mintmark Styles.htm
Ok will do. I always forget about V.V.. Did look at the other sites and I agree that there was a lot of problems here. I'm just trying to play B.G.C. here but not even close. Thanks guys I'll give on this one!
