Hey Guys and Gals How can you tell a 1950-D/S quarter from a 1950-D?? I've seen some other D/S and sometimes it hard to tell and sometimes easy..which one is this I got a NICE 1950-D quarter and something about the mint mark makes me feel like it might be a D/S--sorry I can't get a photo. To me it seems that the top line of the S is right above the top of the D...then at the side of the D there is some other lines that might be part of the S. I tried looking for a photo on the internet but couldn't find one...so if y'all have a good photo or know of someway of telling me how I can tell the D and the D/S apart please tell me Thanks alot. Speedy
Speedy, you may have a double die reverse or a D over S. The DDR is easiest to see doubling of the eagle`s talons. The D over S shows mostly at the top and left and the interior of the D. The right side of the D looks more like the D was re-cut. Sorry I don`t have a picture but the Breen Encyclopedia shows a close-up. If you use enough magnification you should be able to determine which of these you may have.
dollarcrazy I looked at the talon and its not doubled as far as I can tell. I think I have a nice MS D/S!!! Where I think I see something is on the top and left-- I think I could say it looks recut-- As for the interior I can see what looks to be a doubling of the bottom of the D with 10X--with a microscope at 50x it's too big and I can't see much. I'll try to see what Breen says as soon as I can get to the library. Thanks for the info. Speedy
