Got this from the bank today and was wondering if it was worth more than face. It has been circulated quite a bit.
Even if you don't know much about paper money grading or value for the Series, take a look at that note and try to explain the condition, find the problems due to wear and tear, notice the counterfeit pen test mark on the face... just as you might with coins, look at the condition and consider it against those marvelous crisp new notes you have probably seen at some point in your collecting or banking experiences.... Unfortunately, this note, in this condition, is worth face value. It's a spender or a hole-filler until a better example comes along for your collection, if you are even attempting to collect this Series. Were this note, from this specific Series 1950 C - San Francisco Federal Reserve district, a grade of extra fine the value over face would pick up, maybe $125 - $150. My advice, your note would be better spent buying something of better quality for your collection.
Sure thing. Kep looking though, you're bound to come across rarer Series that are worth holding despite being worn from circulation. If you go to any bank branches regularly and know the tellers you can ask them to hold anything old or odd they get for the next time you come in to the bank, or leave them your number and let them call you if something good comes in. Some Tellers are willing to help a collector out like this and you can get such things at face value.
