So I was going through all my old doubles and my wife knocked some of them off my desk. Well, I figured I had better get them picked up and sorted so it doesn't happen again. As I'm looking at the mint mark on the back of this 1949 I notice the S looks a little funky, then I look closer...it's stamped over a D!!!! So I grab my Redbook to see if this is a known variety and there it is! Mine is most definitely NOT in MS condition but it's still a nice error! I'm trying to figure out how to get a picture of the mint mark then I'll post it!
my camera has a macro setting but if you don't have a camera with such a setting you could always take the pic through a loupe or magnifying glass.
Here's some photos I managed to get a couple with the loupe, I posted the best one. As you can see the coin itself has seen better days, but I'm still happy to have it in my collection. It's amazing what you can still find in circulation. So far just from this run of bank rolls, I've had 2 war nickels and some really nice 60's and 70's nickels. http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w286/Oefje/Coins/1949SDreverseclose2.jpg http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w286/Oefje/Coins/1949SDObverse-1.jpg http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w286/Oefje/Coins/1949SDReverse.jpg
