Hello Coin Talk, I usually don’t collect wheat pennies anymore but I have a few wheats that I held on to over the years that are still with me. This OP is referring to the 1948 wheat-back in the photo. On the reverse side of the coin on the left wheat-stalk i see a die break/crack that extends to the surface and across to the collar of this coin. Is this is a die break/crack I’m seeing? Thank you, Jacqueline
I noticed doubling on Lincoln’s bow so I shot a pic in better lighting, is it possible this is doubling on the bow?
It ‘s possible, but very unlikely unless you can match it at Variety Vista or Wexler/doubleddie.com. 72 years, most varieties are known. To have both a die crack and doubling would be very unique...more than likely it is just a contact mark...Spark
...it could also be machine doubling or die deterioration...if you think about it, a die crack is also a form of deterioration...Spark
