1948 d nickel error

1948 nickel looks like half a coin is missing is this a mint error
and does it have any value

It looks more like someone started to "spoon" the coin to start the process of making a ring.

That's half? That's not even a quarter of it missing
Looks like a damaged Nickel. The overall condition looks awful also.
Not an error and No extra value.

 

It doesn't look like a clip to me, so I'd have to guess damage. It's an interesting piece nonetheless.
