Can anyone help me on this one please. I found this penny in an old coffee can full of wheaties I bought in a flea market. The coin has what appears to be a die cap error obverse. edges are rolled up but the reverse is not distorted at all. Is this a real error or a fake and any ideas on what it would be worth. Thank you
I think it's been spooned or it's a dryer coin. I could be wrong, though. It wouldn't be the first time.
Im sorry new to this can you tell me what dryer coin is and spooning, what kind of damage would I see
Damaged, it's a dryer coin. Simply a coin that spent a lot of time in a dryer with clothes. We see about one of these a week posted.
A dryer coin is one that has been spun through many clothes dryer cycles, pushing the edge of the coin towards its center. Spooning, tapping the edge of a coin many times with a spoon or other like object, creates the same effect on a coin.
Wait a minute here, In the pic of the reverse do I see a second rim? Look at the very bottom and you could see where it is pulled away in 2 places. It looks like the obverse is covered by some sort of bezel or something.
There is a separation in the reverse, looks like someone was trying to take it off or pull it apart. Thank you so much for the help.
