    Hey guys...

I nabbed it at work and was just checking it out. Noticed beside the date was a small leaf "what the heck?"
So I found this about it

Does anyone have any info on this one...rarity, price etc?

So I guess this means this coin is a 1947 imposter..lol

I looked it up for you, it's worth the same as a normal 1947, and in some grades less. Still neat though.

Twiggs, the 1947 Maple Leaf coins are an emergency coinage that was struck, because the demand for certain denominations was very strong,& the new obverse dies had not yet arrived from the Royal Mint in London,England. The 1947 Maple Leaf exists on all denominations, but the 50c. is quite scarce,& the silver $1 coins of that issue are extremely scarce.

    thanks Aiden :)

My other 1947 doesn't have the mark, so I guess having both is a good thing :)

    Twiggs:
You say: "doesnt appear too circulated" and MS-63. If it is MS 63, it can't have ANY circulation. MS means Mint State, and the 63 is the degree that the coin is in mint state, so, MS-63 would be a choice uncirculated coin.

Twiggs, the 1947 ML coins are not rare. There is one that was made in 1947 that is however, it has a DOT after the date, just a small circle. Those are tough. The Maple leaves, I have rolls of the complete series, cent, nickel, dime, etc... Look for the 47 Dots.. the 1948 year is a tough year for Canadian Coinage as well. Keep looking, I know with your perseverance and determination you will find that one special piece.

    Have fun!!!

Jim,the 1947 Maple Leaf 25c.,50c.,& $1 coins ARE scarce to extremely rare. The 1947 Maple Leaf 1c.,5c.,& 10c. coins are not scarce.

While you are correct about the 50¢ and one dollar coins, mintage figures from Charlton show that the 25¢ is not rare. 1947 25¢ 1,524,554 1947ML 25¢ 4,393,938.

Bill, that's very interesting, but I reckon that the 1947 ML 25c. coin is an underrated coin.
