Hope this is the correct forum for this question, if not my apologies. I am a newbie that inherited many old coins and paper money from my parents, and know very little about old coins. Can you please help identify if this is really a 1946 war nickel? It has a darker color, feel, and ring to it. I washed coin with dawn dish liquid. 20180204_211718.jpg 20180204_211854.jpg 20180204_211655.jpg

Even washing with Dawn is usually discouraged, and since the war ended in 1945, a 1946 would not be a war nickel. Welcome to CoinTalk

Thanks for your reply. I was told that some 1946 nickels were minted with same silver content as earlier ones and were considered "war nickels". So that is untrue?

If they were, it would be a "wrong metal" type of error and I'm not 100% sure how you could check outside of using an XRF type metal analyzer. Wait awhile and I am sure others will chime in.

I do believe that it is a spender. Sorry to say.
