I haven't come across very many but they're inexpensive and usually vf or ef when I find one. Is it possible this coin is a"sleeper"?
According to David Lange in his book on Mercury Dimes, the 45 "Micro S" is not the rarest for this year. The rarest is the "Trumpet Tail S". David states that the Micro S in Mint State specimens is plentiful and in circulated specimens, downright common. Chris
If only you knew a Merc collector with a VF-XF set...if only. In all seriousness that would have made my week as well. Congrats on the find.
The 1945 micro-S is common, but it is in isolated clumps. A very old timer at a Southern Cal. show 20 years ago, sold me a 2x2 box of them in various grades for little over spot. Still have half somewheres. he said ) for what it is worth, that most of the bags of them from the SF mint were sent to San Diego, Orange, and Riverside counties. He and his brother got a bag as soon as they heard about it in a coin club, and eventually they just used them for cash as no one wanted to pay a premium in the local area, and few outside of it even knew about it. I have bought a few dime whitman folders here, and most have the micro-s. The majority are well circulated. Jim Remembered I had a photo comparing them
I've got a 45S that appears larger than the micro and smaller than the regular one. I posted some pics last year I believe but never got any responses to the thread. I finally just stuck the flip in a box and it;s here........somewhere.
