    Hey! :)

I recently bought this error coin, and thought I would share it with all of you. When I recieved it, not only I notcied the mint mark was "messed up", but on the reverse it has "stretch" lines under E PLURIBUS UNUM . Watcha yall think!

I see three dots, one above & between the T & E of STATES and the other two are above the M in AMERICA, in the arch. What are those? I can't wait for you to get a macro lens for your camera so you can give us close-up shots. :p

    Ribbit :)

Ps: Have you weighed it to verify it is within specs? ;)

There is Toad always looking at the negatives! The dot above the "E" is just a regular spot (ink?) and the others I do not know? It is the same size as a regular half dollar, and the weight of it "feels" okay, but I do not have a scale. Now, the positives? :D

What about the little hump, next to the mint mark, coming out of the base the eagle is standing on? Is that normal?

Hmm, I guess not? I will wait for more comments before I jump to the conclusion that it is a fake. Only cost me $9, so I don't mind....

The little hump is normal. Just got through looking at a 1943 and it had the hump. I don't collect these so I rarely look close at them. :kewl:

I can't wait for someone to pipe in about the mint mark. That looks interesting but I know nothing about this series. ;)

I think its biggest problem is that it has been rather violently cleaned, probably with a scrub brush and abrasive. You refer to it as an "error" coin. What is there that makes you think that? If you mean the mint mark, it seems only to have suffered the same rough handling as the rest of the coin. Probably just contact damage. There are no referenced mint mark overstrikes for this year.

I look at it closely with a magnifier glass, and I see that the mint mark is not damaged, it is clearly doubled of some sort. Another "error" are the streaks right below the E PLURIBUS UNUM.

The streaks are also affecting the "E" :)

You need to get the macro lens if you want us to see what you see, for us to then to provide feedback on it.

When we see nothing, we say nothing. ;)

I think Toad needs to stop being so picky ;) And work with what he has. :D

The only thing I can contribute is that I think the "stretch lines" you are referring to look like what happens with a worn die. Not really sure about the mint mark - it is just little blurry dot to me. And yes Toad already knows about my eyesight - what was the coin - oh yeah a possible 1864-L. :) :)

I was somewhat where you are now, a while ago, and I knew I needed to be able to provide proper photos if I wanted proper feedback, so I spent a small fortune on a camera so I could provide quality photos. All you need to do is spend less than forty bucks for a macro lens and it will pay for itself within 3 months, especially considering you sell stuff on Ebay and some of those items will fetch more money if you provide better pics so the buyers can see the coins better. :kewl:

Oh come on! BELIEVE IT OR NOT, the reason I caught it was from looking at this photo! Look below the HALF DOLLAR words toad, and you will see it is CLEARLY doubled. I think you need new eyes!

What I want to see is a close-up of E PLURIBUS UNUM. To me, it looks like something's going on there. :kewl:
