Is there anything in the machining process at the mint that could cause this damage? I've seen this a few times before.

Well, they probably use some acid in there somewhere. It looks like it has seen some acid at some time. Aside from that, your coin looks like someone took a hammer and chisel to it.

Looks like someone, at some time, really took out a day of frustration on that poor ol' Lincoln cent!

I've seen a 2 or 3 just like this though, so I'm thinking some type of machine did it, just not sure what type of machine damage this is. A coin rolling machine on steroids?

Nope...This is not from a machine.

it is simply a coin that has had 4 cuts placed into it with some type of tool. Could be a cutting tool if the marks are on both sides.

It could also be , as suggested,, marks left behind from a chisel or a screw driver being hammered into the coin.

    Thanks,
    Bill

I think somebody rain it over with a grass mower it has the same teeth marks as a grass mower has in the coin I think it's mint post damage too
