Please tell me that this is a double die and not machine doubling! I couldn't find anything wrong with the back, just the front on this 1945-D Nickel. I've looked on PCGS though and don't see a reference to a 1945-D double die. Opinions? Also, the picture doesn't show it well, but the star beside the date appears to have 6 points instead of 5.
Wexler lists a Class VI Distended Hub Doubling for this date/mm. Here is the info: Description: Very strong extra thickness shows on IN GOD WE TRUST, LIBERTY, the star, the date, hair and queue details, the profile and the bust. Die Markers: Obverse: Die crack NW through upper right to rim at approximately 12 o'clock; die gouge from rim SW to upper left of E in LIBERTY. Reverse: The mint mark is listed as WRPM-008/RPM#20 (D/D West) Take some photos of these areas of the coin so we can see if you have a real variety.
Looks like it. Coneca lists several. Here's a link that gives you theirs and die markers. Hopefully this will help you narrow it down. http://www.conecaonline.org/content/jeffersondoubleddies19441945.html#_1945-D
Can you guys explain the reverse mint marks and the different versions. I don't even know where to start with this. Is there something specific that I'm looking for at the mint mark? Any idea what the others might have sold for?
Texas...sorry to hear about Romo. That is if you're a Dallas fan; if your not a Dallas fan then I'm not helping you out at all. Can you get us a closeup of the mint mark? Something similar to the closeup of the "E" you gave us. Thanks, Jody
LOL...Nah, we're originally from Pgh and love the Steelers. Here are pics. Personally, I don't see any doubling on the mint mark when I look at it up close. All of the doubling seems to be on the front.
Any idea on the value for something like this? Just a ballpark would be appreciated. $1, $10, $100 etc. Thanks!
