1944 Wheat Penny (Is it an error or wear and tear?)

I bought a few rolls of pennies and found a 1944 Philadelphia mint wheat penny. Now I know these are not worth anything, but the last four looks a little messed up. I have attached a picture of it and I was wondering if I could get a few comments on this one? I'm sure it's wear and tear, but I needed some more opinions. :)

The last digit in the date looks like it took a hit from something (perhaps a coin counting machine or a coin wrapping machine) during its 67 years in circulation.
