I realize this thread is worthless without pictures, but I don't currently have the equipment to take one, so please bear with me.

I have a 1944-P wheat cent that IMO is an XF. But the north-west quarter of the "O" in "one" is completely flat, and so is the "PLU" in "pluberis" there is no other wear on the motto and only slight wear on the wheat stalks.

There are distinct lines going from the flat part of the "O" to the flat "PLU" and when the coin is tilted a the right angle, a 'phantom' "O" can we seen directly west of the original. This phantom "O" does not overlap at all. I'm Not sure if this was damage at the mint or PMD or what.

Any ideas of what happened just from my description?
