1944-S double or not?

    I just came across this out of a bank roll, very circulated, but???

    Just thought I'd ask......

    I wanna say it's machine doubling but I have absolutely no credentials or authority to say so, just intuition. Consider this a free bump until the expert cavalry comes in!

    Machine doubling. You can tell by the flat shelf-like appearance of the secondary image.

    I agree, If the doubling appears to stair step up then it's going to be machine doubling. True doubled dies should have the doubling on the same level.
