It may have electroplated with zinc or something similar, either as an experiment (relatively common for schoolchildren to do) or as an attempt by someone trying to defraud a buyer. Underneath the zinc is still the same old copper used to make cents, but the coating prevents us from seeing that.

it looks close the the penny you just showed but slightly lighter in color but veryclose.im just confused because it is lighter than copper does not stick to a magnet and its surface is worn in places and does not appear to be covered or plated because of its weight?i will have to have it looked at to know for sure but it seems like soft magnesium or soft silver or something.thank you guys

I'm not entirely sure how to investigate further, though if you think your silver-colored cent is lighter, than actually weighing it and comparing it to the weight of a normal cent would be a good start. If it really is lighter, then that could be some useful information.

one last note.i dropped a copper coin on my wooden table and it leaves like a ringing ping when it drops.the 1944 penny leaves a different song like a small ding but not like the copper and the silver penny stops rolling alot faster were the copper penny rolls for a while.
