TGIF Everybody, I found this gem today. Id like to believe that my penny is one of the rare a sought after 44’s, but I’m sure he’s just an old Lincoln. Either way into my growing collection he goes.
There not rare it looks fine to me and I wouldn't consider that gem but just a nice circulated wheatie.
Over one Billion were produced that year from Philly mint. Not rare. No close AM listed for that date. Worth anywhere between 2-3 cents. Happy addition to your collection.
And just to tighten this up some, it’s the “transitional” ones that are the big deal; that is to say, when going from one year to the next, i.e., a CAM year to a WAM year, and a few of the ones that were supposed to be changed to WAM end up CAM, those are the ones struck on the wrong dies and where the mistakes were made. Did I explain that OK, or is it too awkward?
All close or far AM cents are in the 90's and 2000's as stated by some of the other users. The reason it doesn't have a D stamp is because it is from the Philadelphia mint. D is for Denver and no mint mark is generally from Philly, aside from the super uber rare Missing S from the San Fran Mint.
