Not sure what to make of this one. The edge is a silver color and around the devices you can see silver color.
I heard that a copper or brass coated steel 1944 cent was found.
But the magnet test turned up negative. Not steel.
Zinc with copper or brass coating ??? mint experimental coin ???
Has any one seen any thing like this. Any ideas on what this could be

1st thing you would want to do is weight it on a gram scale, a 1943 should weigh 2.7 grams, other wheats 3.1

Short of that, it is probably a cheaply plated 1944 shell case cent, and the plating is wearing off. I have a bunch of copper plated 1943 cents, and zinc plated wheats of several years, all found in bags.

Plating is very common and will actually detract from the value on a high grade coin, on that coin you pictured, there really is no value to detract from other than the generic 4-5 cents it would bring in a roll.

    Edit: correct weight

Looks to me like Mercury coated. Used to see these once in a while, before Mercury became a dangerous substance to play with.

Post mint damage. Not an error coin.
