So I know this isn’t an error, but I feel like this forum should be renamed “Error, Variety, and Counterfeit,” and I’ll post here until it gets moved elsewhere. I’m quite positive this is a Henning Nickel. It weighs 4.715g, has no mint mark, and has the dot on the left side of the Monticello. Here are some photos showing it. Sorry they’re not the best.
Thanks, I was just surprised how under weight it was. My understanding is most Henning nickels were overweight.
I don't believe that's a Henning, the Hennings have a lope in the R in pluribus. That is the key give away that it's a Henning. That is what I have been taught over the yrs.
Sorry I didn't mean to jump you thread.im new here but if you look at the ref posting you'll see the lope in the R. Dead give away it's Henning.
Thanks for the input, but please look at the link provided here: You’ll note that not all Henning nickels have the loup. You might also notice a specific marker above the left side of the Monticello. The dot is also a key giveaway.
Not all were overweight. Also, mine could have environmental damage. Correct! Not all reverses are the same.
As noted, there are a few diagnostics that can be used. Weight isn’t very reliable but quick. Best is to use the RDV diagnostics. Surest way.
