Is this one of the varieties of the 1944 D over S re-punched mintmark for the Lincoln Wheat penny? I'm asking you guys because you are the most accurate and knowledgeable collectors I've heard of so far. Sorry about the photo...I still need a coin camera.
Pics are fair but I don't think you have one. Very rare. Looks more like corrosion around the mintmark. This is it (Not mine).
I'm seeing a bit of die deterioration doubling on the numbers 1 and 9. Considered worthless doubling. So that's most likely the issue on the mint mark. It's not a RPM IMHO
I believe you guys That sounds right to me. It does have signs of corrosion. I will continue my hunt for error coins. I did acquire some interesting uncirculated coins over the last year, I'll post them in the appropriate forum. Merry Christmas!
It looks like something is inside the D, but hard to tell if it is RPM or just some kind of crud or corrosion. Acetone?
