The top part of S would be under the top of the D. I can't see anything. It looks like that 9 was damaged though.
Ok, here is what I see pointed out and marked. I tried to mark it without marking over the marks on the coin.
This should help.:kewl: http://www.coppercoins.com/lincoln/diestate.php?date=1944&die_id=1944d1om002&die_state=mds
Well it wasn't the exact one, you linked to the -002 variety, and I believe this to be the -001, but I think I'll send him the coin and the pic and get his opinion, thanks!
Ive got a book on the error wheats. It does look like you might have something there but if so it is very slight.
I do not believe it is the -001 variety either. That one has a projection like a rhino horn over the left upper part of where an "S" curve was. It is believed that the sinker tried to remove the "S", but didn't want to affect the vertical shaft of the "D", so mainly the intermittent upper part of the curve was removed, but not the remaining horn or the angle of the "S" that is inside the space of the "D". Your coin doesn't show either. I think what you see is differential toning or staining that makes the appearances you see. IMO. Jim
