    Hi,

My MIL owns a store in our hometown and yesterday she was given by a customer a 1944 Nickel w/ the letter "D" on the back. Is this worth anything. My MIL asked me to search the net and see and I came upon this website.

    TIA,

    cody

    HI!
32,309,000 1944D Five Cents coins were minted. This is in the war-time copper-silver-manganese alloy coin. It is 35% silver (0.0563 oz actual silver weight which is worth about 41.8 cents).
TRENDS values for various grades (the condition of the coin):
    Very Good $0.60
    Fine $0.80
    Very Fine $1
    Extremely Fine $1.75
    Uncirculated (MS60) $6.50
    Uncirculated (MS65) $17.50
    Uncirculated (MS65 Full Steps) $30

Hi Cody, and welcome to the forum.
Since it came to your mother in law through circulation, it is probably pretty well worn, but there is always the possibility that it has been in someone's collection/hoard for most of its 61-year existence. If you can post a clear picture of both sides, we can probably help you grade it.
