All French Republic coins contain the national motto, which translates to liberty-equality-fraternity.

If yours looks like this one http://www.numismatique-fr.com/images/moderne/fmd_131127.jpg then, well, yes and no. It was issued by or on behalf of the Provisional Government and used in the liberated parts of France. (This denomination actually came out after the end of WW2, I think.)

JFTR, most do. There are several coins (even circulation pieces) that don't.

Actually, it means Liberty Equality BROTHERHOOD. Fraternity is a college organization.

Umm, English is not my primary language, but I would be very surprised if "fraternity" had that one meaning only. ;)

English is my primary language, and has been for 75 years, during which I obtained a journalism degree with an English minor, and I can assure you that the word has several meanings besides college organization - definitely including the sense in which the French use their related word "fraternite"!
