and the 44-D has a lower mintage than others, making it worth more than the rest of that roll you were searching ... nice find.
I remember the first time I ever saw Philippines coinage when I was a kid, I thought it was some odd sort of U.S. money because of the seal.
Great looking coin with the Philippina Liberty and all. Ive always liked their designs on their coins even their one cent, 5 cent and Peso coin I've collected in the past. I know they were minted by the US Mint but I wonder if American engravers created Philippine designs or Philippino envgravers did? Just wondering.
It was done by a Filipino sculptor Melecio Figueroa, apparently he lived just long enough to see it put on a coin. Intresting article about it here http://coinsite.com/us-coinage-for-the-philippines/
actually it was the second highest mintage from 1937-45 at 31,592,000. The 37,38, and 41 all were under 4 million. Still a fun find in a dime roll https://www.ngccoin.com/price-guide...ntavos-km-181-1937-1945-cuid-32748-duid-95759
