1943P Nickel - What am I looking at?!

    I’ve actually had this one set aside for a couple years probably. I’ve always assumed it was just damaged until I got a digital scale and jewelers loupe recently. Can anyone tell me what’s up with this please? TIA!

    Looks like post mint damage to me- it's not an error. Corroded and scratched up coin.

    I always assumed so too but under magnification it looks to me like there are other letters stamped into various places around the rim of the coin and overtop the normal letters in some places... or am I experiencing false pattern recognition? The next to last picture for example...

    That seems to be the case.. The corrosion would give that appearance.
