1943 steel penny

    Damage - it looks like it's been
    plated a long time ago, and the plating
    is starting to 'age'.

    If there is silver color on the edge, it has been replated.

    The surface of that coin is the poster child for an over pixelated digital image! I thought when I saw it, oh boy another crappy picture. But no you tricky man you fooled me with a REALLY good picture of the surface of that coin! Good on you. I’m famous for naming coins in my circle. I name this Abe: “Over pixelated Abe” nice coin put it in your named collection

    As far as I can see, I agree with Fred, it does look as though applied post-mint plating is, in a manner of speaking, coming apart at the seams, dropping off like flies, taking a hike, putting an egg in its shoe and beating it, i.e., failing. :)
