No photo yet. But I have a 1943 steel penny in pretty good condition...au 55. It looks very much like a polished die error but unsure... 80% of the number 4 is not there. The four was never struck. The rest of the date numbers are very well struck. Been trying to find more information and haven't been able to, does it make the penny more valuable since the 1943 steel penny is not worth much without an error. Greatly appreciate your help.
That sounds like a worn die strike. Thenumber 4 on the Die was filled with compacted debris which would probably be grease that was used to wipe down the Die. That is referred to as a Struck through grease issue. No it does not make it more valuable.
