I have about 60 1943 steel pennies, any idea what the value per coin is? I understand condition has a lot to do with value, must of the ones I have are all dirty should I clean them? if so what should I use or leave them as they are. Thank you.
Hello Roberto and welcome to CT. Shoot an image of the lot, lay them out so we can see them. Reed. Don’t clean them, wipe them, buff them, rub them etc.
Circulated value.. About 2 Cents each. So you have about $1.20 worth Here are the mintage amounts for the 1943 Steel Cents - P Mint - 684,628,670 D Mint - 217,660,000 S Mint - 191,550,000
Thank you, Paddyman98, I searched in Google "what is the value of a 1943 steel penny" this is their response, "10 to 13 cents each and uncirculated .50 cents" is Google wrong?
I won't say there is an absolute correct answer. They give an estimate. But as Reed stated.. It depends on the condition. If you found them in circulation and many look like the need a cleaning then they really don't have a high premium.
If you were trying to buy, that might be reasonable if they were unsearched as to condition. If you went to sell them, and they were in good condition, and not replated, (very common), then maybe 3-5 cents each. In uncirculated condition and not plated or damaged, I might go over a $, I have for several high end needs.
I found these on EBay, 50 for $12 delivered. These are all average circulated so about .25c each if they sell. Reed.
What I found interesting (and I heard this on NPR? I think......) was that after the production run of 1943 steel cents, we had so many blanks left over that we sold them to Belgium and minted 25 million Belgium 2 Franc pieces at Philadelphia. Pretty neat fact. (I may have even heard this on an old episode of Coin Show Radio since I've been catching up. Not sure!)
