What I have found is a Nickel that was struck on a 1943 steel penny blank. Does anyone know if this is worth something?

Does that coin attract near a magnet? Or is it some kind of coating?

If genuine (a HUGE if), it is quite valuable.

The first test is the magnet test, if it is attrected to the magnet that is good.

Test two is to weigh it on a scale that is accurate to 1/100th of a gram. If it weighs 2.70 grams that is very good.

Test 3 is to take it to a Reputable coin dealer in your area for his opinion. If he thinks you have something that is great!

The final test would be to send it to NGC or PCGS for proffessional authentication. If the coin is successfully slabbed by the company then you need to contact a major auction house to have your fantastic find sold at auction.

    Good luck!!

I'd say the magnet test should be enough :-D

thanks for all the help. Yes, it seems to be genuine. It sticks to a magenet...I guess it could have been a different blank, I just assumed it was from a 1943 penny since it is a 1943 nickel. It is also a bit smushed and the outer edge isn't visible--probably because a penny is a little smaller than a nickel. I've actually had the thing for 20 years now. I just thought to see if it was worth anything now. I used to go through bags of nickels that I would purchase from the bank and take all the silver ones out--that's how I found the steal nickel and just kept it!
