I bought this coin at a coin auction as part of a larger set of steel cents. I was looking at them again recently and I noticed that on the back side of the coin, there are two grooves. (one at 12:30 and the other at 11:00) After I scanned the coin, I also noticed a weird line at about 4:00.

I tried taking a photo instead but it just didn't work for me. It came out very blurry. Is there any extra value to the coin based on these strange grooves? There is definitely an indentation where the grooves are where as the rest of the marks appear too be just some kind of gunk.

Thanks for any help you might be able to give on this.

  3. The one at 4 O'Clock looks like it might be a die crack, but it's hard to tell from the picture. It's neat, but it doesn't add much extra value to it

I see nothing there to add value. Your weird line at about 4:00 is a die crack. What I am pretty sure I am seeing is that it has been recoated. As such, it might be worth 10¢

Replated cent, agree with RLM, about 10 cents at best.
