1943 silver steel penny

does anyone know about a 1943 silver steel wheat penny ,couldnt find much about it, hopeing someone has heard of one

Not silver or an error its steel coated zinc and your example appears to have been reprocessed and corroded in that condition its just a cent but still neat. https://www.usacoinbook.com/coins.php?id=440&displaytype=own.

Copper was needed for the war effort so the mint struck cents on steel planchets that year.

 

use a magnet on it and attach it to your fridge to invite questions and double take looks. In that condition it's worth no more than 15 cents , so have fun with it.

 

So the website had it mixed it up after all.I originally had(zinc coated steel)but the website said the opposite so I changed my wording.

 

As a two year member, I'm surprised you had trouble finding information about the 1943 steel cent. Doing a "search" here on CT would give you a ton of information.

 

Interesting...a steel coated zinc cent would probably be easy to strike, and if stainless steel, it should last awhile
