Some say never clean any coin.. I say if it is not a valuable coin then clean away!
I have used Baking Soda on the majority of my metal detected silver. Especially the Silver War Nickels.

    That's just my humble opinion.

I don't think this question has ever been raised here. For the war nickels, was the mintmark punched into the working die by hand or was it incorporated into the master die? I don't recall ever seeing a war nickel with a mintmark repunched or misplaced.

Plain and simple, it's damage. You can see the displaced metal on the upper right.

Rats. When I super zoom, it looks like a bunch of black eyed tad poles. That is interesting.

There are lots of listed RPMs. I don’t know of any misplaced mint marks though.

Manually added. War Nickels are fun to variety hunt. Lots of opportunity.

    Metal Composition: 56% Copper - 35% Silver - 9% Manganese
    Melt Value - $1.54

I’m not seeing a RPM so I would say melt value.

Paddyman I gave you the benefit of the doubt when you said the word "interesting" but now you have gone and redeemed yourself when once again you burst my bubble. Nice work sir. I salute you

How much do you think I could get for these 3 20 pound gold bars I have stashed away? They all have Fort Knox stamped in the wrong place on the face of them
