1943 Mercury Dime w/ Lines through In God We Trust

    I noticed this feature and was wondering what caused it? I thought at first it was a clash but it doesn't seem to fit with the reverse details.

    Looks like it's been cleaned or rubbed with something.

    The anomaly is picking up highlights and creating shadowes in the same orientation as the motto , so they are die related. More than likely they are abrasion lines from removing a clash

    That is not what caused said anomalies. As stoneman said, they're mint made, be it from "die maintenance" or whatever (I'm not sure of the exact cause).

    So, some type of die scratches? But it does look cleaned as well.

    As said above its from removing a clash on the die, I see it often on 80's LMC
