1943 Jefferson Nickel (what's going on with the date?)

Okay, so I have this 1943 P silver Jefferson nickel with a pretty major lamination error. I'm looking at it, and the 3 of the date looks funny, specifically the upper right corner, which is triangular...

I'm wondering...what do you think is going on here?

Did a die crack just change the shape of the date? Is this a previously unrecorded overdate? (Not that it looks like a 2, and not a 4 either...maybe a 7, but that doesn't make sense why it would be on a coin from 1943...)

    So, what's your opinion?

Agreed - moving L to R, the lamination tracks through the foot of the 1, across the tail of the 9, through the crossbar of the 4, and on to the top of the 3. With that kind of damage, the date could have looked like anything. Due to the alloy, warnicks were particularly susceptible to laminations.
